“We’re seeing very strong demand,” he told reporters during a press conference earlier today. “People want to fly, people want to go home, they want to resume business.” Fernandes added that the airline will run flights over its entire domestic network according to government guidelines, but noted that frequency would depend on demand. “At the moment, it’s within Malaysia, but we would like to believe that we would be opening to other countries soon.”
The decision to increase the number of flights is unsurprising as AirAsia had also announced a new Unlimited Pass promotion for inter-Malaysia travel. The Pass is exclusive to the airline’s BIG membership, priced at RM399, and aims to allow customers to fly as many times as they want within the country. On a related note, Malindo Air recently announced that it will resume flights to almost all its domestic destinations in Malaysia following the implementation of the RMCO. Malaysia Airlines (MAS) had also stated that it will be resuming domestic connectivity, as well as international routes beginning June and July respectively. (Source: Reuters / MAS / Malindo)
