This coincides with a new “gameplay” trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II being published. The word is in quotes because despite what the trailer is called, there’s way too much of the cinematic stuff and too little actual gameplay. What the trailer shows in the first person perspective – which can safely be considered gameplay for an FPS – is barely 15 seconds, in a 108-second long trailer. Naturally there’s the usual call to pre-order to get access to the “open beta”, which these days just means demo. With the trailer fluff out of the way, let’s go to the Steam page for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Here, we see that the game unlocks on 29 October, thanks to timezone differences. But more importantly, the starting price of the game is RM291. This is an increase from the RM266 of Call of Duty: WWII, the last game in the series that was made available on the launcher. According to PC Gamer, this reflects the price hike in the US as well, with the game jumping to US$70 as its base price from the usual US$60. Which, in turn, is in accordance with the trend of games’ prices going up since the launch of the current generation consoles. For what it’s worth, the US$99.99 Vault Edition will be priced locally at RM415, so regional pricing is still keeping prices down a little, even if it’s just about RM25.
