The Canadian company now advertises on its site what it calls Darkplates 2.0. And what Dbrand shows here is basically the same PS5 faceplate, but with ridiculously large intake vents. This is approximately where the location of the internal fan is on the inside of the console. More changes include the clipped corners, making the plates flush with the console itself, and LED lightstrips.
In addition to the new design, Dbrand has a new tagline on its site as well. From “go ahead, sue us”, it now reads “checkmate, lawyers”. And there’s a long, provocative story about the way this design looks original and that there’s “(probably) no newly-approved patents” that makes this new one illegal. The whole situation shows that the Reddit post from last week was planned, as is the release of this new plate design. SIE likely sent the cease and desist letter a few months before, and Dbrand has probably been working on this new one ever since, before more recently pulling the original Darkplates. But it would be interesting to see if this new design will indeed be deemed original enough that SIE leaves it alone. (Source: Dbrand via VGC)
