While Google didn’t reveal the story behind the doodle, the artwork seems to be inspired by the Sudirman’s acclaimed performance at Asian Popular Music Awards 1989 in Royal Albert Hall: In addition to his birthday, the unveiling of the Google Doodle seems to be timed nicely with the upcoming Raya celebration. During his lifetime, Sudirman has recorded quite a number of Raya songs which that are still being cherished until today. One of them is the evergreen Balik Kampung song which was not a Raya song but is quite popular during this season given its theme. (Source: Google Doodle.)
