Netflix today has quietly rolled out a new plan that is specially made for mobile phone and tablet users which in line with an earlier report that the company is planning to roll out cheaper plans. As it turns out, Malaysia is one of the first markets to receive such option. Priced at RM 17 per month, the option for the new plan does not appear when you browse Netflix website using the internet browser on your PC. Our personal experience showed that the new option might not be available for existing subscribers even though we have checked the plan options for our active subscription using the browser on my phone.
In addition to being restricted to smartphones and tablets, the other limitation that users will have to face under this particular plan is that the contents will only be presented in Standard Definition and limited to one screen at a time. Aside from these restrictions, users still able to binge watch Netflix contents without any limitation. To see the new plan yourself or even sign up for it, open this particular link directly using the internet browser on your smartphones or tablet. Note that the mobile plan option didn’t appear when we used Firefox but we didn’t encounter such issue with Chrome, Edge, and Safari. (Source: The Star. Thanks to everyone that sent in the tips!) UPDATE (19 Nov – 932AM): Netflix has reached out to us and provided a brief statement to further clarify the RM 17 monthly plan that has appeared in Malaysia: So, in other words, the RM 17 mobile-only plan is not yet part of Netflix’s official offerings. Depends on how you looked at it, the plan kinda made Malaysia special although we are quite curious to see how many users would actually pick up this particular plan.
