According to a report by HKEPC, the GPU brand may already be planning on announcing its next-generation GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti graphics card running with Ampere GPU either by Q1 or Q2 2020. More specifically, the reports says that NVIDIA may just announce it during Computex 2020 in June next year, which does technically falls in the Q2 2020 period. Mind you, the GeForce RTX 3080 moniker is still just a placeholder, so don’t be surprised if NVIDIA decides to call it something else.
As it is with all speculations, there’s still not a whole lot of solid information to go with. We don’t even know if Ampere will support the new PCIe 4.0. However, considering how AMD has already made it the de facto interface for its own Navi-powered, Radeon series GPUs, it not a stretch to say that NVIDIA may have to follow suit, especially if it wants to stay relevant. At the very least, we know that all future GeForce RTX series graphics cards will retain the same ray-tracing cores and, to that end, perhaps provide some much needed improvements for real-time ray-tracing performance.
