The announcement came via an Oculus blog post. In it, the company also details the reason behind the decision. Essentially, it comes down to the fact that the Go supports 3DoF (Degress of Freedom). The newer Oculus Quest, on the other hand, comes with 6DoF, which has gotten very positive response from users. As such, that’s where the company will be putting its focus on.
Until it happens though, the company says that it will continue to support the platform until 2022. New apps will still be accepted until the end of this year. In the meantime, the VR headset maker is also pushing for more apps for the Quest to be more easily distributed. That said, the company hasn’t said much beyond the fact that such apps can be distributed, even without the Oculus Store. On one hand, this move will encourage more apps that make use of 6DoF, which is a good thing. But on the flip side, the Oculus Quest is priced significantly higher than the Go. (Source: Oculus)
