According to Bernama’s report, the plan was revealed by the Chairman of State Communications, Multimedia, NGOs, and Cooperative Development Committee, Hasnul Zulkarnain Abdul Muniam. While the plan might sound rather set, he stated the committee is still in discussions with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission as well as telco companies regarding the installation of telco towers within the city.
Hasnul pointed out that 5G network required the telco towers to be built nearer to each other as compared to towers that are designed for existing 4G network. In a way, he is describing the involvement of mmWave technology in Perak’s 5G trial which even though has shorter transfer distance, it allows for faster data transfer rate than the conventional 4G network. Given that the national 5G trial will begin this April in Cyberjaya and Putrajaya, the revelation by Perak state government is indeed quite timely. Nevertheless, don’t expect it to be made available to the public very soon though since it going to take some time for 5G network in Malaysia to be ready for public consumption.
