Qualcomm claims that smartphones with the Snapdragon 865 are able to capture professional image and video quality. The company further explains that the 8K video was shot with a Sony IMX586 33MP camera on the aforementioned prototype phone. Qualcomm credits the Snapdragon 865’s ability to capture high resolution video to the its built-in Spectra 480 Image Signal Processor (ISP). The ISP is able to process 2 gigapixels per second which allows for 8K video capture, Dolby Vision video capture, 960fps slow-motion, 200MP photo capture, simultaneous 4K HDR video with 64 MP photo capture, and so on. The video showcase does seem impressive, especially considering the fact that it was recorded entirely on a smartphone. However, 8K videos are still far from relevant as a preferred format for most users at this time. That said, it’s good to know that smartphones such as the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S20 are actually capable of such features. (Source: Qualcomm.)
