Xiaomi will join Sony, Samsung and Huawei in delivering 40+MP camera sensors for smartphones. The Weibo post was made by none other than Lin Bin, co-founder and President of Xiaomi. In the image, the words ’48MP Camera’ is clearly seen next to the flash and camera hump. Slated for a January 2019 release, the 48MP camera is expected to make its debut on Xiaomi’s flagship phone of the year. It is unknown if the sensor will be created from scratch, or if it will be a tweaked version of either Samsung or Sony. It is highly likely that it’ll be the latter, considering Xiaomi’s penchant for using Sony IMX sensors in its devices. That said, we still have a couple of months to go before we receive any confirmation of a new imaging paradigm shift in affordably-prices smartphones from Xiaomi, or if and when it will be heading to Malaysia.
